Thinking About Starting a Shopify or Other E-commerce Business in India with Prepaid Orders Only?
Wait, read this article first. It might change your perspective on starting a business with prepaid oredrs only.
Recently I ran a Meta ad campaign for one of my shirt products. The campaign did well in terms of people visiting my website and starting to check out but then it just stopped when it came to actually placing orders. Here is a Screenshot.
I got a lot of people visiting my website and starting to check out through Meta Ads. Do not get confused by the screenshot I shared. The ads were actually created and managed through Meta Ads Manager on a computer. As most people who do marketing know the computer version has a lot options and is more advanced than the mobile app for creating meta ads.
What Was the Problem ?
The real issue was that my website only allowed orders, which is a prepaid-only payment system.
Although I got 31 people starting to check out I did not get an order. A lot of customers seem hesitant to place orders on new or lesser-known websites like mine because they are afraid it might be a scam, especially when it comes to prepaid orders in India.
As a result I ended up spending around ₹400 on ads without getting any sales. Eventually I had to stop the campaign.
My Experience
₹400 is not a loss but I am sharing this experience to help others to avoid the same mistake when starting a Shopify or other e-commerce business in India with prepaid orders only. Many customers still prefer Cash on Delivery because it gives them confidence and trust in the purchase of products in India.
Before spending a lot of money on ads for your business in India , think about how your payment options might affect , how much people trust you and whether they buy from you especially when it comes to prepaid orders.
